Crossroads Solar

About Crossroads Solar

Crossroads Solar is an innovative project proposed by Fountain County landowners as a 200-megawatt (MW) solar photovoltaic generation facility that will diversify farm income and deliver clean, locally generated electric power. The project is set to feature rows of solar panels, surrounded by prairie grasses and pollinators compatible with grazing and beekeeping to create a sustainable environment.

The brilliant design prevents shading of adjacent rows, allows for maintenance, and allows ample space for vegetation between rows. Crossroads Solar uses a simple design that minimizes soil disturbance, with solar panels mounted on racks attached to steel posts that have been driven into the ground.

The center of rows will be generously spaced, about 16-20 feet apart, leaving wide gaps between allowing for maintenance. The project will offer significant environmental and economic benefits in the local community.

The ground-cover below the panels will help build soil nutrients, reduce fertilizer, herbicide, and pesticide use and improve downstream water quality.
