Bioenergy refers to renewable energy derived from biological sources, which are often referred to as biomass. This may encompass plant-based substances, agricultural wastes, or organic materials from animals. Bioenergy promotes efficient waste management by harnessing energy from waste products such as leftover crops and manure, essentially turning something valueless into an invaluable resource. This not only impacts energy production but also shows potential for economic growth and job creation in rural areas where most raw material for biomass is generated.

Nevertheless, responsible and sustainable sourcing of biomass is critical to ensure that the production of bioenergy does not lead to deforestation or disturbing the food supply chain. Public policies and regulations often dictate these aspects. Market incentives for bioenergy, spurred by amplified consumer demand for green energy, are encouraging innovations and efficiencies in bioenergy technology.
